On 14–15 May, for the eighth time, Riga will host Northern Europe’s largest deep tech and knowledge-intensive entrepreneurship conference, Deep Tech Atelier, bringing together more than 2,000 scientists, technology experts, entrepreneurs, investors, and public sector representatives. The event aims to strengthen the deep tech startup ecosystem, foster new collaboration networks, and promote business development in knowledge-intensive industries.

“Knowledge-intensive technologies are one of the cornerstones of Latvia’s economic future. Deep Tech Atelier demonstrates that globally competitive solutions are being developed in Latvia - from medical and defence technologies to artificial intelligence and robotics. Our task is to create an environment where these ideas can rapidly grow, attract investment, and become export-capable businesses,” emphasizes Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis

The main focus of the conference is on medical and defence technologies. In healthcare, the emphasis is on accessibility, improving quality of life, and turning ideas into practical solutions. In defence, the focus is on strengthening security and advancing artificial intelligence, robotics, and autonomous systems, with innovations often transferring into civilian applications and creating new market opportunities.

“Deep Tech Atelier is where science meets business and ideas turn into real, exportable solutions. Latvia has the ambition to become one of the leading deep tech hubs in Northern Europe, and this conference is an essential platform to connect our talent with international capital, partners, and markets,” says Ieva Jāgere, Director of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia.

Over two days, more than 100 speakers and panelists will take the stage across three conference tracks - Deep Tech, Deep Frontier, and Growth Stage. The programme will cover both strategic technology development topics and practical innovation implementation. The event will also feature a startup pitch competition, on-site EXPO stands, investor presentations, and other activities designed to create new business opportunities.

This year, the international Deep Tech Atelier Startup Pitch Competition will once again take place during the conference. Its goal is to highlight the most promising deep tech startups and provide them with the opportunity to present their potential to an international audience of investors and industry representatives, fostering investment attraction, acceleration, and strategic partnerships. A total of 30 teams will compete for a place in the final, where the top 10 will contend for valuable prizes and global investor attention, supporting their growth and scaling.

The Deep Tech Atelier conference is organized by the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA). Last year, the event attracted more than 2,000 participants from 62 countries, with the largest representation from Latvia, Germany, Estonia, Poland, Lithuania, and the United Kingdom. The conference serves as a unique platform to explore the latest trends in technology, investment, entrepreneurship, and science, exchange ideas, meet industry leaders, and build new international partnerships.

Deep Tech Atelier is implemented within the framework of the European Regional Development Fund co-financed projects “Support for the Improvement of the Technology Transfer System” and “Development of Innovative Entrepreneurship for SMEs”, as well as with co-financing from the European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility (NextGenerationEU).
